Embassy of Cuba in Wellington

Kia Ora to all our friends in Aotearoa New Zealand!

It gives me a great pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to the Latin America and Spain Film Festival website, on behalf of the Embassies accredited to New Zealand that will take part in this event, some of them working from Canberra in Australia.

The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in New Zealand will be leading the coordination efforts for the 16th edition of LASFF, and it’s an honour to update you on some of our work to make this fascinating event come true.

This year we have eleven nations participating in LASFF. On our official website, you will be able to find a complete programme, with all details and synopsis for each of the films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela. We suggest also to follow us on social media, especially through the event Facebook page:

Our festival aims to connect New Zealanders with our cultures, by experiencing and enjoying recent productions from our film industries. As part of our ongoing commitment to community involvement, I’m delighted to announce that LASFF will continue to offer free to the public, given our goal to reach the wider possible audience.

Since its very first edition, LASFF has strengthened partnerships and improved relations with numerous art centres and academic institutions around the country. Although based in Wellington, LASFF will be travelling around both islands, to places such as Christchurch, Dunedin, Whanganui, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Palmerston North, to name just a few.

We would also like to express our gratitude to everyone involved in the organization of this event. LASFF would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, the dedicated work from the embassies staff and the effort from diverse teams organized by local community, including some Kiwi – Latin groups. Special thanks to the Wellington City Council, Te Papa Museum, New Zealand universities and venues around the country for your continuous encouragement, assistance and for embracing the spirit that has allowed LASFF to continue running over the years.

Last but not least, it’s our duty to voice our appreciation to our respective governments and to the talented filmmakers from Latin America and Spain who have made their work available for all of us to enjoy.

Don´t get behind, for which we strongly recommend to experience our wonderful Hispanic world through 16th LASFF … Luz, Cámara… ¡Acción!
